Our Story

A Legacy of Love, Passion and Fashion

Every brand has a story. Ours began long before Bilimbi had a name.

It all started in 1987, with our mother’s passion for dressmaking. Through Shae Fashion, she created bespoke and ready-to-wear clothing, laying the foundations of a family journey rooted in creativity and a love for beautiful fabrics.

In 2001, a new chapter began with Shado’s, our boutique in Rose Hill. Although the business closed a few years later, the passion for fashion never faded. In October 2015, my sister and I decided to revive that family legacy. Bilimbi was born.

Just one month later, we lost our mother. What had begun as a new venture suddenly took on a much deeper meaning. Bilimbi became our way of keeping her passion alive and carrying forward the legacy she had lovingly built.

Our journey has been one of learning, evolving and adapting. From showcasing our products in selected boutiques and hotel shops across Mauritius to our transition online in 2020, every chapter has helped shape the Bilimbi we know today.

Through changing times, one thing has remained constant: our love for beautiful fabrics, thoughtful designs and clothing that women genuinely enjoy wearing.

Today, Bilimbi continues to grow, guided by the values that inspired its beginnings — simplicity, authenticity, craftsmanship and love.

More than a clothing brand, Bilimbi is a family story woven through generations. And our story is still being written.
